At 15:56 on April 17, 2026, the PandaX‑4T detector at the PandaX Dark‑Matter Laboratory, 2400 m underground at the Jinping site in Sichuan, ceased operation upon the completion of Run 11162 as scheduled.
Over its lifetime, PandaX‑4T accumulated 1465 days of operation and successfully fulfilled all scientific goals of this phase. The PandaX collaboration is now formally shifting its focus to the construction of the 20‑ton‑scale detector, PandaX‑20T. With a larger target mass, suppressed backgrounds and substantially improved sensitivity, PandaX‑20T will advance key studies including direct dark‑matter detection, astrophysical neutrino measurement, and research on the Majorana nature of neutrinos.PandaX‑20T is expected to be gradually deployed at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory by the end of 2026, with its construction completed in 2027. Installation and commissioning will follow, before the commencement of physics operations.
